The Diamond iPad has 11.43 carats' worth of diamonds

if you thought that the iPad price tag was steep, get a load of this: There’s a US$20,000 option out there on the market. The iPad – which starts at US$499 for a Wi-Fi enabled 16GB model, and which reaches US$829 for Wi-Fi and 3G 64GB model – is an item that Mervis Diamond Importers has managed to bling out with diamands, said CNet.

According to Washington, DC-based Mervis’ website, the Diamond iPad costs US$19,999 and boasts 11.43 carats’ worth of diamonds displayed in a “micro-pave styling”. Mervis states that the diamonds used on iPad are graded highly in colour and clarity (G/H in colour and VS2/SI1 in clarity, to be precise).

According to CNet, Mervis did not say which version of the iPad it will be selling. It also failed to mention its storage capacity. But perhaps that price is not as bad as we might think.

A little over three years ago, another company offered a diamond and gold iPod shuffle. It retailed for US$20,000 too, noted CNet. If you plan to pick up the Diamond iPad, you can start placing orders on the Mervis site in June.
