Expat Restaurant Guide - Mediterranean

Dolce Vita
If you haven’t been here since the old Pronto days, you won’t recognise the place. We urge you to go there post haste; it will not disappoint. The space is very modern Med, with a minimally decorated, airy, resort-style interior. The top tables, naturally, are on the terrace by the landscaped pool, but there are only a few so make sure you reserve one. From certain angles you can see the high rises of the business district and the Singapore Flyer, a view which is particularly seductive by night. The menu presents diners with a contemporary and elegant take on Mediterranean cuisine and you know you’re in for a culinary treat when the freshly baked bread arrives with five different spreads and dips. Bouillabaisse, turbot with clams and fresh herbs in a beurre blanc, and suckling pig confit are all highlights on the current menu.

Hong Kong travel Guide - I Love Hong Kong

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Bright lights, masses of skycrapers, a beautiful skyline and even more beautiful people. This is Asia’s hottest boutique, hippest and most happening harbour city; a place chock-full of gorgeous boutique hotels; shopping to suite every budget and whim; star-studded restaurants and bars; and views that will make you feel as though you are on another planet. Some call it the “Big Lychee”, “The Pearl of the Orient”, “Asia’s World City”, or a “Shopper’s Paradise”. Call it what you like, as long as your ticket says “Hong Kong“, you are in for a treat.

Airport
The Hong Kong airport is constantly listed among the best in the world for its amenities, services and efficiency. Luggage, for example, can be checked in up to 24 hours before a flight at either the airport or the Hong Kong and Kowloon stations. The quickest and easiest way to travel to and from the city is to take the Airport Express Train. Travel time is around 25 minutes and if you are not mesmerized by your personal TV screen you will enjoy a great perspective of the peninsula’s lofty towers. Taxis, limousines and buses are also available. For further information visit: www.hongkongairport.com

Expat Restaurant Guide 2008 - JAPANESE

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

AKASHI
Not just a move, but a complete reinvention for Akashi. It was always a stalwart in the old days in the basement of Tanglin Shopping Centre - reliable fare and great prices. Now it has moved to an impressive space on the ground floor of Orchard Hotel (along with newly opened, energetic sister restaurant Inakaya) and gone upmarket. The setting is much smarter, the food is more elegant and the quality higher and, yes, you’ve guessed it, the good old prices are a thing of the past. To be fair, you are getting what you pay for.
#01-01A Orchard Parade Hotel, 1 Tanglin Road, tel: +65 6732-4438.

AOKI
Being part of the Les Amis Group, you know you are in for a pretty subline experience. This is arguably the ultimate in Japanese dining and service, so expect a not insignificant contribution to your credit card statement. Play it smart and go on expreses. The decor is the epitome of Zen minimalism. The menu covers sushi, sashimi, shabu shabu, sukiyaki, tempura, and seasonal produce is a highlight. Everything is exquisitely presented.
Shaw Centre, #02-17, 1 Scotts Road, tel: +65 6333-8015.

IKUKAN
The name of the lane off Club Street may elicit the odd giggle, but the food at Ikukan certainly won’t. This is serious, creative Japanese fare in an elegant setting and unusually, a Western style of dining is predominant with starters, main courses and desserts. The speciality is Japanese charcoal grill, so try the beef or black cod. Set menus are good value too.
23 Mohamed Ali Lane #01-01, Tel: +65 6325-3362.

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Sunday, July 20th, 2008
