Fisher-Price launched iPad for kids in July

Toy maker Fisher-Price has come up with what many have called an iPad for the preschooler. The iXL Learning System is a tiny computer that opens like a book, has big, colourful icons on the right side and buttons and a speaker on the other side.

Applications include story book, game player, note book, art studio, music player and photo album.

The touchscreen gizmo, which will sell for US$79.99 when it goes on sale in July, works with Mac and PCs and even has an SD card slot and a USB port.

If it is good enough for dad and mum, it is good enough for the tot. How long the gadget will last – given those clumsy fingers poking the device and dropping it – is another matter.
