Google gives sneak peek of its tablet

Two days before Apple announced the iPad tablet, Google released designs for its own tablet, running on its upcoming Google Chrome OS.

Initial designs showed a user interface containing large, square icons and controls, with navigation tabs on the side. It also possessed the ability to run multiple programs simultaneously.

Significance: Much has been expected from the upcoming Google Chrome OS and its reported use on touchscreen tablets is not surprising, as Google is more interested in creating a simple user experience compared to current operating systems like Windows or Snow Leopard.

It wants to tightly integrate the hardware and software to ensure the best user experience. However, like its Nexus One cellphone, the hardware is likely to be made by someone else with Google putting its brand on it.
