According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), the highest recycling rates of materials in Singapore comprise metal (up to 91 percent), wood (52 percent) and paper (51 percent). Incidentally, glass (9 percent) and plastic (11 percent) are among the materials with the lowest rates. “The economics of collecting and recycling certain kinds of waste are more favourable, hence the higher rates of recycling,” says Ong Seng Eng, director of Resource Conservation at the NEA. So unless you work in a steel or timber mill, the best way to begin your Gaia project is to recycles as much paper as possible – newspapers, magazines, newsletters, shredded documents, whatever. Taiwan Solar Energy Stadium constructed for 2009 World Games


Taiwan recently finished construction on a solar-powered stadium that will generate 100% of its electricity from photovoltaic technology Designed by Toyo Ito, the 50,000-seat arena will officially open later this year to welcome the 2009 World Games which features many sports not included in the Olympics such as parachuting, tenpin bowling and rugby sevens.

Taking advantage of the solar energy, a new futuristic-looking stadium in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, can generate its own electricity. It is worth mentioning that the stadium has been constructed for the World Games, which are going to take place this July.
