Palm Pre News: Supply manipulation is wrong‎

It had been reported on Wednesday that the Palm Pre could be in short supply when it is made available in the summer, but it this supply manipulation wrong‎. Bloomberg run the original article of how many units will be available, Cnet News have been explaining in more detail.

Bloomberg said that the new Palm Pre smartphone would start with 375,000 units, compare that to the 1 million units that the Apple iPhone 3G sold in its first three days, and you understand that there will not be enough Pre handsets to meet demand.

Palm or Sprint has not yet confirmed that they will have a stock shortage of the Pre, but could this really be part of the companies plan. If this turns out to be one big plan, then it could go one of two ways. This worked for the Nintendo Wii, as they did not build enough units on purpose, and we already know how that worked out.

The thing is, the Palm Pre is different, why try and hype the phone up by not producing enough units to meet with demand, especially when there could be a new Apple iPhone round the corner.
